As Tropical Storm Idalia heads toward Florida, forecasters expect the storm will develop into a major hurricane and bring several feet of storm surge to the Tampa Bay area. Local governments are opening sand bag sites to the public and asking residents to prepare. Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm in 33 counties, including Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Manatee. Some local governments have declared a state of emergency as well, and others are expected to provide updates Monday.
